Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue was founded in 2001 when the founders felt that something needed to be done to improve the lives of ex-racing and ex-coursing dogs in the area. Now some 17 years later we have rehomed nearly 1200 dogs and provide care for 12 to 15 dogs at a time on a rolling basis as we endeavour to find new forever homes for these affectionate animals.
A registered Scottish charity with no paid staff we raise funds for kennel fees, (we do not operate our own kennels at this time) feeding, vet fees, fostering expenses and advertising. We derive all our income from our own fundraising events, “Meet a Greyhound Days” at various locations in the area as well as donations from individuals and supporters in the community
We also run an extensive ‘Events’ calendar where we try to raise public awareness of the plight of dogs at the end of their racing careers and raise much needed funds.
So if you live in Dumfries and Galloway, Cumbria or wherever, and would like to help support our charity, you need not necessarily adopt a greyhound. You can donate, foster, or assist with transporting, assisting at fundraising events or even helping at the charity shop as a volunteer. All you need is some time and a big heart!
