After two years of being cancelled, the Guid Nychburris Festival in Dumfries is set to return this year with many of the usual traditional events, along with a few additions to incorporate 90 years since the first Guid Nychburris in 1932 and the Queens Platinum Jubilee of 70 years of Her Majesty on the throne.
We thought it would be apt to also celebrate our 20th Anniversary since DCGR was officially registered as a Charity and remember all the dogs we’ve helped on their way to a happy life by taking part in the Guid Nychburris Day Parade on Saturday 18th June.
Before we complete the application form, however, we’d like to gauge the interest of members and supporters and would like a commitment from at least 20 greyhounds and their adopters to take part in the Parade which will leave from Newall Terrace in Dumfries at 5pm. So if you would be interested in joining us please email Graham Hill who will be organising our contribution to the event at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Some of our longer-term members and supporters will recall that we took part in the parade in 2008, 2009 and 2010, with each parade having a theme. We won first place in each of those years and have found a picture of one of our entries in the Guid Nychburris Day Parade 2010 when our theme was Greyhound Rescue – International Rescue (Thunderbirds). We had Lady Penelope, Parker, Brains and Virgil and some of the dogs wore bibs saying “I’ve Been Rescued” along with some greys wearing bibs saying “I Need a Home.” We even played the theme tune from Thunderbirds as we walked the route and brought a smile to many a face along the way!
So please contact Graham if you would like to join us and we hope to see all of you there to help us celebrate our 20th Birthday in style!
