Please come along and join us for a Greyt Walk and Social Day Out to walk some of our Rescue Hounds looking for forever homes.
We will be meeting around Noon at the Gilnockie Hall at Claygate, just off the A7 in Dumfriesshire on Sunday 26th June and will be walking along the Byre Burn path know as the “Fairy Loup”, taking in the wonderful Waterfall whose name is said in local legend to have come from fairies leaping from one side of the burn to the other and later featured in the poetry of local lad Hugh MacDiarmid.
We can’t promise you’ll see the mythical Fairies, but we can offer refreshments at the hall with tea, coffee and home baking including vegan cakes and a chance to stock up on “legendary” must-have DCGR merchandise. Our own “sprite-ly” Margaret Hill will be there too with Doggy Wear for sale such as jackets, leads & collars and will also be pleased to take orders for DCGR logo Human Wear. The Hall offers parking, toilets, plenty of seating and a dry base in case the weather isn’t “Fair-y” on the day!
There are variations of walk for the energetic and the leisurely alike, with parking at both ends and also at the Hall which is ¼ mile from the Byre Burn Bridge and the start of the walk. The walk is a gentle sloping and mostly levelled path that follows along the river for just under 1 mile before coming out at the River Esk Bridge. Walkers then have the choice to return the same way back, or for those who’d like a more strenuous option, you can walk back up the road 1 mile to the Hall.
For the really young at heart and pawsomely fit, there is an extra 2 miles of woodland walk back along Habb’s Sike taking the old railway line path back up to Gilnockie Hall and a much earned cuppa.
There are stopping points and benches for the humans along the Byre Burn path and even a little riverside landing for the courageous dogs who fancy getting their paws wet with a dip in the burn to cool off.
We’d love to see you and all your greyhounds, so please get your walking boots on and bring your wallet for the scrumptious cakes. All funds raised will go to the gorgeous greyhounds: our best incentive!
As always, we are grateful to all the volunteers who make these days happen. If you are able to help us with baking or refreshments or transport on the day, please get in contact through email on firstname.lastname@example.org or message Viv on 07873 381470.
We look forward to seeing you there!
